Texas homeowners are seeing higher insurance rates this year. Farmers Insurance raised its rates for homeowners policies 14.9 percent while State Farm increased rates 9.8 percent and Allstates rate hike was 6.5 percent, according to the Texas Department of Insurance. Those companies combined cover approximately 2 million Texas homeowners. To find out which insurers do the best job for their customers when disaster strikes, Consumer Reports surveyed 10,000 of its readers. Amica and USAA were the top-rated insurance companies, according to that survey.
