An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 has shaken parts of Kansas and Oklahoma. The United States Geological Survey says the quake struck around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. It had an epicenter about eight miles south of Conway Springs, which is a town of about 1,200 people about 25 miles southwest of Wichita. It came less than a day after a magnitude 2.6 earthquake was recorded near the southern Kansas town of Anthony.
