SUV Teeters Atop Fire Hydrant After Driver Loses Control

A man was recovering Monday morning after crashing his SUV into a tree and a fire hydrant, according to the San Diego Fire Department. The driver was heading south on Ruffin Road around 3:51 a.m. when he drifted right near the intersection of Kearny Villa Road and lost control of his Chevy Tahoe, police said. The SUV ended up stuck atop the hydrant at the corner of Ruffin Road and Waxie Road with water gushing into the street. The San Diego Water Department was called to the scene to help shut off the broken valve.
