Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall affecting nearly 42,000 of its Super Duty F250 and F350 trucks due to potential safety hazards associated with the left rear axle shaft. The concern stems from the possibility that the axle shaft could break, increasing the risk of a crash and endangering both drivers and passengers.

According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall encompasses a total of 41,555 units of the 2023 Super Duty F250 and F350 models. The NHTSA report indicates that the axle shafts "may have been improperly heat-treated during manufacturing," which could lead to breakage. This issue can result in a "loss of drive power" or "vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park," thereby amplifying the risk of an accident.

While no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection to this particular recall, the NHTSA has received seven warranty reports as of August 14 outlining problems related to the axle shafts.

Ford aims to address this safety concern promptly and comprehensively. The company plans to send out official notification letters to owners affected by the recall starting October 16.

Ford owners can take their trucks to authorized Ford dealerships, where trained technicians will inspect the left rear axle shaft code of the vehicle and replace it at no cost to the customer.
