Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges, dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one, on foot. The Flood Warning continues for the following river and locations in Indiana... Wabash River at Lafayette, Montezuma, and Covington. .Minor flooding continues on the Wabash River at Lafayette, and it will begin at Montezuma and Covington late this evening. The river crested less than one foot above flood stage at Lafayette late this morning, and the level will drop below flood stage overnight tonight. Crests at Montezuma and Covington will occur Friday. New flood warnings may be needed Friday for Hutsonville and Riverton in anticipation of possible flooding of about one foot or less that could start Friday night or Saturday morning and last as late as Monday. Upcoming rainfall Friday into Saturday is expected to have negligible effect on area waterways. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Wabash River at Montezuma. * WHEN...Until Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 14.0 feet, Several hundred acres of bottomlands along the right bank from the mouth of Sugar Creek to northern edge of Montezuma begin to flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:45 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 13.9 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this evening to a crest of 14.7 feet tomorrow evening.
